What's New & Returning Favorites
The Reno-Tahoe Open had many new and returning favorites in 2010. Here is a recap of some of the great things that took place this year. Stay tuned for information on some of the fun activities planned for 2011!
Military Initiative
The selected philanthropic platform of the 2010 Reno-Tahoe Open, the Nevada Military Support Alliance, worked in conjunction with the RTO to create a variety of military inspired activities. The military initiative will include a Patriots’ Outpost, a Patriots’ Luncheon, a Soldier for the Day activity for the kids, a static military display including a Medal of Honor feature, military flyovers, a foursome of military golfers in our Monday Pro-Am and a military element to the Reno-Tahoe Open’s first-ever Women’s Day presented by Barrick Gold of North America. The Patriots' Outpost featured free entry into a catered hospitality tent on the 18th green sponsored by International Game Technology (IGT). Delicious treats from Applebee's Bar & Grill, PF Chang's, Macaroni Grill, Chevy's Fresh Mex and Flowing Tide Pub were featured.
Patriots' Luncheon presented by Erlach Computer Consulting
Occurring Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at Montreux Golf & Country Club, the Patriots' Luncheon, presented by Erlach Computer Consulting, honored not only the men and women who serve in our military but also the employers that allow these soldiers to serve and hold their jobs while they are away serving in the Guard or Reserve. This luncheon featured keynote speaker Col. Mark Tillman (ret), USAF, Former Commander of Air Force One, including during the 9/11 attacks. A special thanks to Wells Fargo for being the speaker sponsor.
Awful Awful Burger Station
The Reno-Tahoe Open introduced a local favorite to all who attend our PGA TOUR event – the Awful Awful burger. Known for being ‘awful big and awful good’ this burger certainly earned its reputation! The aroma of sizzling burgers led hundreds of attendees right to this concession located just off the 9th green.
Women’s Day presented by Barrick Gold of North America
Women’s Day presented by Barrick Gold of North America occurred on Saturday, July 17, 2010 on the grounds of the Reno-Tahoe Open. The day featured mimosas, exposition tables, spa treats from the Atlantis Resort Spa, a golf demonstration featuring LPGA Hall of Fame golfers Annika Sorenstam and Patty Sheehan, a luncheon, and a fashion show by The Summit. Sponsored by Wells Fargo, the luncheon featured outstanding speakers Annika Sorenstam, Patty Sheehan and Lt. Col. Julie Brown of the United States Air Force. Beyond Barrick Gold of North America and those already mentioned, other important sponsors included Renown Health, Bank of the West and The Summit.
Soldier for the Day
As part of the military initiative of the Reno-Tahoe Open in 2010, children partook in the military action and fun, too! The Soldier of the Day program allowed children to stop by the Kidz Par Tee Zone and receive their borrowed GPS device and then follow the directions to a variety of military branch-hosted stations. Children received a military-inspired trinket at each station while they geocached throughout Montreux Golf & Country Club. This activity was a fan favorite! Special thanks go to Geomate Jr. and Learning Express.
The Hump presented by Champion Chevrolet
The Renegades hosted a new venue at the 2010 Reno-Tahoe Open, The Hump, presented by Champion Chevrolet, a first-ever circular bar located right on the 18th fairway. The tent featured an exclusive lounge area and flat screen TVs showing all the PGA TOUR action. In 2010 many fans joined us to "Do The Hump" and experienced the Reno-Tahoe Open like never before!
Fiesta Loco on #16
This fiesta-themed hole featured margaritas, a taco bar, even a Mariachi Band! Excellent viewing opportunities abounded for visitors to this fun tent, and amazing Mexican food make this a must-see part of the Reno-Tahoe Open.
Beringer Wine Walk
Guests sampled fine wines at four tasting stations throughout the course as they watched the PGA TOUR action unfold. This year Beringer Vineyards joined the RTO as the official wine of the 2010 Reno-Tahoe Open Wine Walk. Get your upgraded ticket online, or pay on-site. Must be 21 years of age or older.
KNPB Kidz Par Tee Zone presented by Institutional Cash Distributors
Brought to you by KNPB and presented by Institutional Cash Distributors, the 2010 Kidz Par Tee Zone featured a bounce house, face painting, putt-putt golf and more! New activities in 2010 featured a decorate-your-own-cookie station and even KNPB Public Broadcasting character Clifford the Big Red Dog! Interactive computer stations and children's programming brought to you by KNPB made this activity both fun and educational. The Kidz Par Tee Zone was also the home base for the new Soldier for the Day activity.
