The Reno-Tahoe Open brings guests a variety of military-inspired activities on-site as a continuation of our Salute to Troops effort in our partnership with the Nevada Military Support Alliance (NMSA). The Nevada Military Support Alliance is designed to provide support and coordinated integration to all Nevadans who have served or are presently serving in the United States military. The Nevada Military Support Alliance works to identify gaps in service and create the bridges to close those gaps. We invite you to join us in supporting the men and women in our military by attending the 2012 Reno-Tahoe Open, July 30-August 05, 2012, and take in these military-inspired activities.
Area physicians Dr. Daniel Rowan, Dr. Jason Champagne, Dr. Renny Uppal and Dr. Louis Bonaldi approached the Reno-Tahoe Open with an outstanding idea - to provide four Pro-Am positions to deserving military personnel in our area while the doctors carry their bags as caddies. The name of the program was 'Doctors Supporting Troops' and the Reno-Tahoe Open could not be more pleased to work alongside these caring area doctors to create an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime Pro-Am experience for these deserving soldiers. To become a Doctor Supporting Troops or to learn more about applying to be a selected soldier or veteran, contact the Reno-Tahoe Open office at 775.322.3900 or email us.
The Patriots' Hangar is a hosted hospitality tent on hole #9 for active duty, Guard and Reserve military as our way of saying "thank you" to the men and women who have served our country. Entrance to this tent is available to those with proper military identification.
For the 3rd year, the Reno-Tahoe Open will host the Patriots' Luncheon on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at Montreux Golf & Country Club as part of our Salute to Troops mission. The 2010 Patriots' Luncheon featured Col. Mark Tillman, Air Force One pilot including during the 9/11 attacks and the 2011 Patriots' Luncheon featured special guest speaker Commander Kirk Lippold, USN (Ret.), the commanding officer of the USS Cole during the attacks in Yemen in the year 2000 in which 17 Americans lost their lives. More information regarding the 2012 speaker will be announced as it becomes available.
Featuring geocaching using hand-held GPS devices, simple to understand and specially made for smaller hands, children and parents alike enjoy trekking through Montrêux Golf & Country Club while finding treasure stations throughout the course as part of Soldier for the Day. Hosted by branches of the United States military, Soldier for the Day is fun for kids and a great part of the continuation of the Reno-Tahoe Open’s Salute to Troops.
The Reno-Tahoe Open's Appreciation Station allows attendees of the tournament to send heart-felt hand-written messages to U.S. troops serving abroad. The Reno-Tahoe Open provides the supplies necessary for sending notes, including postage, and had many guests send these notes to deserving Americans serving abroad. We thank the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) for their ongoing support of this initiative with their volunteerism.
The integration of the Salute to Troops message would not be possible without the dedication of its Community Committee Co-Chairs John Brownell, Susan Fisher, and Gerry Gallop or their active committee members. Please join us in thanking them for their hard work and creativity in putting together the variety of military activities right on-site at the Reno-Tahoe Open at Montrêux! To learn more about becoming involved with the Military Initiative committee, please email Info@RenoTahoeOpen.com.
