Birdies for Charity Challenge

Love the game of golf and belong to a Men's or Ladies Club in the Reno/Sparks/Tahoe area? This is your opportunity to have fun with your local club counting birdies, all for the benefit of local children's charities. The name of the game is the Birdies for Charity Challenge and here is how it works:

  • Have a representative from your Men's or Ladies Club register to become a participating chapter through the Reno-Tahoe Open Foundation's Birdies for Charity Challenge committee. Participating clubs in 2011 were Wolf Run and LakeRidge Men's Clubs.

  • Promote your club's participation in the Reno-Tahoe Open Foundation's Birdies for Charity Challenge and get them to pledge an amount per-birdie they make throughout the year.

  • Begin birdie-counting! Continue counting your birdies through July 01, 2012.

  • Tally the number of birdies you achieved throughout the year and multiply that the pledge made and that is the amount donated for the Birdies for Charity Challenge. For instance, if I pledge $1 per-birdie today and over the course of the season I achieve 200 birdies, I will pay $200 to the Birdies for Charity Challenge, all to benefit local youth.

Benefiting charities are:

The First Tee of Northern Nevada
Northern Nevada Junior Golf Association

In 2011 alone, over $8,000 was raised for these two outstanding programs all thanks to local golf clubs participating in the Birdies for Charity Challenge, a 58% increase over what was raised in 2010! All participants in the Birdies for Charity Challenge are entered for a raffle for gift certificates from Golf Headquarters and the top money-maker in 2011 earned a coveted spot in the Reno-Tahoe Open Monday Pro-Am!
